Truckload

Truckload shipping, or Exclusive Use, offers companies the option to have their shipment travel from Point A to Point B without stopping for other cargo. This type of shipment is ideal for those with time sensitive cargo, expensive cargo, or hazardous cargo.
What Materials Need to Be Shipped Separately?
Whether materials are time sensitive or expensive enough to merit truckload shipping is entirely up to you. There are guidelines you need to follow for hazardous materials, though.
The New Jersey CDL Manual defines ten types of hazardous materials: explosives, gases, flammables, oxidizers, poisons, radioactive materials, corrosives, combustible liquids, and miscellaneous hazards. Along with these, hairspray and charcoal are considered Other Regulated Materials, which are hazardous.
As well as ensuring the safety of the driver and other passengers on the road, some goods need to be shipped separately in order to protect other items that are also being shipped. Whether or not your materials can cause damage will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
When shipping hazardous materials, it’s important to note that drivers need to have a Hazard Endorsement on their commercial driver’s license (CDL). This requires additional education and testing, which means we’ll need to find a driver specifically trained to transport your goods.
How Many Pallets Is a Truckload?
In most situations, your goods will be shipped via pallets. These pallets are 48”x40”. If you plan on shipping a full truckload, you should be able to transport anywhere from from 24-30 pallets. LTL shipments tend to be six pallets or less. If you need to ship 7-23 pallets, speak with your shipping company or freight broker to determine the most cost-effective solution.
How Much Weight Can a Truck Carry?
When you’re shipping via truck, weight is less of a concern than it is for air freight. That said, there is still a maximum weight. This varies based on the truck that’s being used to transport the freight, since the weight of the vehicle is a major factor in how much the tires and axles are able to support.
You’ll need to speak with your shipping company or freight broker to determine how much weight your truckload can handle. Most trucks can handle 42,000-45,000 pounds of weight.
